Types of Lighting
Here are some basic terms and effective strategies to give you not only the functional light you need, but ways you can use light to enhance and transform your event space:
Uplighting is a dramatic, cost effective lighting technique for both indoor and outdoor events. Choose either conventional uplights with a single color or use LED uplights for a more saturated color palette and the ability to change the color scheme throughout the event, creating multiple looks and moods. LED units also use significantly less electricity for those venues where power is limited and a generator may be out of your budget.
Sometimes called bistro or market lights, string lights are a simple yet elegant way to provide warm, intimate lighting for your entire reception space. Try adding paper lanterns to add more depth and color. String lights are also a great addition to indoor spaces like ballrooms, barns and tents.
Pattern projections are one of the best ways to add depth and texture to a space. Projections can be used over tables, walkways, dancefloors or even to “wallpaper” a room.
Pinspots are the best way to highlight the unique details of your event. Make sure your beautiful flower arrangements, art or center pieces don’t get lost by highlighting them with pinspotting. SPARK carries both conventional pinspots for warm white light and LED pinspots for cool white light.
Wash lighting is a way to provide soft illumination while incorporating the colors of your event.
Chandeliers And Candle Lanterns
Chandeliers and candle lanterns can add a special touch to an event’s décor. SPARK stocks many different styles and sizes of both.
Station lighting is an essential element for nearly every event. Broader than pinspotting, station lighting illuminates your buffet, bar or dessert stations so your guests can appreciate the stunning display. Imagine how much better your bar will look with the glassware glowing in your event colors.
A Note About Power
The amount of power available at your event site is a detail that is often overlooked. It is good to be aware that many outdoor spaces and older buildings have limited power available for your catering, music, lighting and restrooms. If required for your event, SPARK can provide a generator or other power solutions.
Getting married on a ranch in the middle of nowhere is not easy. There's no electricity, no lights, no nothing. Lani fixed all that and then some. I may have underbudgeted at the beginning of the planning process for lights, but I realized that he knows what he is doing, and boy did he do an amazing job! The venue was literally a fairy tale once the sun went down. String lights everywhere, uplights on the barn, a chiffon entrance swagging the barn doors, chandeliers above the bar - it was truly magical, and I don't think anybody else could have done it for the price he did. He was extremely helpful in helping me cut down on unnecessary costs and helping me get the most effective bang for my buck. I wish I had pictures to post here, but I have to wait for them :) Everyone talked about how amazing the venue looked and I still can't get over it. One friend it said it looked like we were dancing in a JJ Abrams movie - it was just surreal and amazing. I can't say enough great things about Lani and his team - thank you so much for giving us our fairy tale wedding!
